Farzana Bruce
Farzana Bruce is a human rights lawyer and researcher, specialising in poverty, homelessness and disability rights. Farzana has a passion for access to justice for people experiencing barriers, which she has channeled through various initiatives, including frontline advocacy as a community lawyer, establishing a legal education and advice clinic for women in prison, setting up Canberra Community Law’s Mental Health Justice Clinic, and investigating the application of poverty discrimination law frameworks as a Churchill Fellow. Farzana is also an Adjunct Associate Fellow with the University of Queensland School of Law.
Farzana was awarded ACT Young Lawyer of the Year in 2019 and ANU Young Alumna of the Year in 2020, in recognition of her professional and community engagement to support people facing barriers. Farzana was awarded Pro Bono/Not-For-Profit/Community Legal Centre Lawyer of the Year at the 2023 Lawyers Weekly Women in Law Awards.
Farzana is a past President of the ACT Law Society and was the first community lawyer to hold this position.
